Members' Observations - Mare Humboldtianum

Mare Humboldtianum (photo)
Mare Humboldtianum, imaged on 4 December 1998 at approximately 21:45 UT by Ian Smith. Ian used a 20 cm aperture Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and a Starlight Xpress MX516 CCD camera at a focal ration of f/10.

Mare Humboldtianum (Humboldt's Sea) is the darker grey feature adjacent to the edge of the terminator shadow, extending over the lower two thirds of its length. This mare is close to the NNE limb of the Moon's near side and measures 305 km by 410 km.

The large crater in the foreground is named Endymion and has latitude and longitude of 55° N 55° E. A feature of this crater is its dark floor.
