Astronomical Usenet Newsgroups

The 25,000+ Usenet Newsgroups are one of the Internet's best features. Each of these discussion groups has a particular theme and many subscribers, some of whom are experts on their topic. The newsgroups carry announcements and discussions and provide a forum for questions and answers on its subject. The Usenet archives are a great resource of information and can be searched from the Web using sites such as the Google Groups search. To subscribe to newgroups and then read and post articles, you typically use the newsreader utility supplied with your browser and your ISP/Internet connection must provide a newsfeed service. However, there are Web gateways into Usenet that allow articles to be read directly in your browser and enable articles to be posted using its email facility. One of the best such gateways has been Mailgate; however, we are now using NewsOne.Net, setup by Cengiz Akinli.

This page provides links to the NewsOne.Net pages for some of the better known astronomy newsgroups. Use them to keep up to date. (Please note that some of the links are to the first of multiple pages; subsequent pages can be reached using a link near the foot of the page.)
